Atlanta Braves Season Over

There comes a point a season when you know the team is not going to win anything in that particular year. Well that point hit last week and it hit hard. First, John Smoltz the greatest Braves pitcher of all time announces that he will be out for the season. Second, we have all come to the realization that Jeff Francoeur has reached his peak and will never be as good as he was two years ago. Finally when Kelly Johnson dropped a pop-up that would have won the game and put us 2.5 GB of the Phillies I knew that this season was not going to be successful. Kelly put his head down and almost started to cry as the Braves walked off the field, are you kidding me a pop up. Winning teams do not drop pop-ups to win games, just doesn't happen. I have one thing to say about Blaine Boyer, if I see him take the mound with his red dome and his stupid beard for our Braves one more time I am going jump off bridge into oncoming traffic. Bobby Cox must be getting a nice kickback from someone (maybe Vegas) to keep pitching this no talent ass clown. Chipper's hurt, Francoeur sucks, Johnson is a zoo, Corky Miller is hitting like .050, and the list goes on, I just wish it didn't hurt so bad inside, because I could just move on to bigger and better things, but love is a tough and I love the Braves, but I also have to realize that this season is over. I will be talking about the prospects that the Braves have and I will blog from there, see ya next time.....The Joe

The Pro and the Joe--GOOD POST!!!

This topic runs deep for me as well, with emotional scars and the occasional drunken rage, like when they lost in the playoffs a few years ago in extras against the Astros. Yeah, Chris Burke! Punk!!! Needless to say, the wife did not like me that much for a couple days. A Love/Hate relationship at its finest, sort of like a marraige sometimes, that's what this game has done to me as a fan first, a player and then a coach. "This game is supposed to be fun damn it"--Crash Davis. The Phillies series gave me the biggest highs and the biggest lows in a long time. It was one of those weekends you won't forget, but you move on. I would rather have the roller-coaster any day. Its more exciting. But when Coste (whose hitting over .300, not bad for a DIII player) hit the pop up in the top of the ninth. I gave my fist pump, and my "that a baby". Once KJ used one hand with his little ass second baseman glove, and dropped the pearl. I put my head down and my "two" hands over my head like my best dog had just died. Not to mention earlier the runners left on base by Frenchy, the missed bunt attempts by Blanco, and the baserunning mistake by Yunel. Huge vagina-fart by the way. COMEON!!! I agree it is going to be tough to stop the Phillies in the East, and .500 ball isn't going to get you into the wildcard. As much as I want to believe and continue my optimism, the reality as my dad always used to say, "It is what it is!". I do love the Braves and will be pulling for them tomorrow versus the CUBS, but I think it is about time to give some young cats an opportunity, the Braves have more liabilites than assets, and I know you guys would agree with me on this one, We Love ASS! If the Braves are smart, they give TEX whatever the hell his asking price is at the end of the year, but I think he might be gone, Scott Boras is his agent. He wants to win, and might want as high as 200 million, and Chipper is still the franchise of the Braves, the golden boy so to speak, he has a lot of gas in the tank, and TEX I think wants a lil'bit more ofthat stardom, that tag. You keep him at all cost though. McCann is become a real favorite of mine, but you are also talking to a former Catcher--He's legit though, a pre-hall of famer. Frenchy is getting there, he will be fine, a gamer who needs to stop swinging around the ball and drive his hands inside his body, think middle/oppo. Maybe he should just not think at all, and play the stupid approach. It works for some guys. See the ball, hit the ball like I used to say so often. Hudson is a solid number 1 starter. Jurrjens and Jo Jo Reyes are looking fine as well, but three starters ain't going to cut it. Hampton has been done for like 5 years, Smoltz is done, Glavine wanted to retire here, he might play one more. Soriano and Moylan are hurt but I like them both, get rid of Acosta Diaz, and Infante, and your boy JOE(that fire crouch looking guy). What is his name? Just playing. Kotsay is a small liability, but I love when he is healthy, he has great instincts, and still somewhat young. Not sure about Blanco, except for defense and speed, he still needs work. I would like to see the Braves get a Carl Crawford or a Rocco Baldelli, and work out some other deals to get some key acquitions (pitching) using some of their good young talent as their bait. I know this would be a long shot, but I would love to see BP--Brandon Phillips in a Braves uniform. He's from Atlanta, went to Redan, but the Reds will not get rid of a 30-30 man. Wishful thinking. Either give these young cats we signed a shot, or trade them and get some guys in here. Make it happen! I think start by bringing up some of these fresh fish and give them a shot. Brandon Jones, Jordan Schaffer, Clint Sammons, who I thought by the way would beat out Pena and Corky--who looks like he just got off the couch by the way and put on a jersey, man he is sloppy. Give me his jersey, I could at least get over the Mendoza line and give MAC a day off. Get some fresh arms in here, if your minor league staff has done a good job, these guys will get the job done in due time. All I have to say is where is my boy OTIS and Crime DOG when you need them. I mean has it been that long, those guys were like super-heroes to me back in the day. DAMN I'm getting old, and the Braves havent been to the post in three years? I look for a couple moves before the all star break and also in about a month a half before the trade deadline.

Reading your post MB, it seems like you're satisfied with the entire Braves lineup. Don't you think it's time to make some radical changes? If everybody's that good, why did we just get swept by the Phillies?
I think we've seen the best of Francoeur and he will never be the allstar that we all wanted him to be. He's a good player from Atlanta and that's about it.
Also I don't think we should give Tex the big $$$ he's gonna ask for, he's having a bad season and he's def not the cleanup guy the organization thought they would have when they traded for him. I think they should pursue other FAs in the offseason.
They also have to rebuild the entire bullpen, everytime I see Boyer or Acosta called up I basically turn off the Tv coz I know the game is lost. Soriano is good but always hurt.
I agree with you when you say it's time to give the prospects some playing time and see what they're worth.
Also, what about Bobby Cox? Do you think the organization is considering a change? I think Coz surfed the extraordinary 90's wave too much...for me he's done..
Like I said it's time for some radical changes and let him go away at the end of this long season

Thanks for reading my comment romainat, or since your anonymous, I will call you "Monday Morning Quarterback". Hey look at that, it's Monday too!!! As far as the lineup was concerned. The Braves had their gameplan or prospectus coming out of spring training on point. They had their roles for starters set, on the mound, and in the field, platoon guys, etc. I looked at Kotsay as a seven hole hitter at the start of the season, but he really surprised me. He is a good two hole hitter--and KJ is filling a void as best he can for now. When Mark got injured, he was hot. It is unfortuante. They had a good thing with Kotsay really filling a need and steping up. You got role players or platoon players now starting and that is not what their job is, if you recall they had a good thing going, platooning Diaz against LHP and Blanco against RHP. It was working well. These are things to think about when you feel like throwing in the towel. The Phillies, Cubs and Yankess have the best record in baseball since this time last year (102-71), thats good baseball, with very limited injuries, or bad luck. The Braves are going to make changes, and yes they need to make some big ones, but you can not make radical changes without focusing on the little things first, staying patient with those changes, not double guessing yourself and then moving on to the next change or opportunity. "Radical changes happen over time, not over night"--Big Benjamin. It seems in your post your just pretty frustrated and hatin' on pretty much everyone right now. It is what it is! Francouer is an extrememly hard work worker, and takes his game very seriously, if you played, which I am saying you haven't then you wouldn't know--and if you have played at a high level then you should know better. He is a true professioanl with high, reachable expectations for himself, but presses hard like we all do sometimes, like all the greats do. Tex is an all-star as well, and he is the clean-up guy the braves want for now. Larry and Mark at the corners batting 3/4switch hitters none the less. Come on!!! And Big Cox, yes he is getting old, but he is the backbone of the Braves with experience and baseball knowledge up the ying-yang. Yes, there are times when he makes desions that I wouldn't have made, but he is consistent, and doesn't second guess himself. The coaches are always the backbone of the organization, he will keep these men in line, keep them patient and focused through some bad breaks, and help them get their confidence back on track. Storms pass, and I am looking forward to the future. See ya next Monday playa. HAHA

Keep it real--Big Benjamins
