New York Jets

Finally this part of the circus is over, but the 2nd half will be when he gets to camp, how will he fit in, how will he eat, how will he hunt, how will he do, how will he live, how will he jump, how will he dance, how will he play against Brady, how will he look in gang green, etc, etc. The Green Bay Packers have fallen way down the list of teams that I would root for, to about where the Patriots are, dead last. The way they treated Brett Favre was a joke, and I can't wait to see how Aaron Rodgers does under this tremendous pressure, the first interception he throws they will be calling for his head. Mr. Rodgers you got what you wanted, but sometimes what you want doesn't always end well, and I definitely won't be on your rooting side, you or the Packers. There is however a new team that I will like to root for and that is the New York Jets. A new practice facility, a new stadium in 2010, and a new face to the franchise. I appreciated the Jets blowing the whistle on the Patriots, and now that deed has been rewarded. Brett Favre and the Jets will be a good match, and I am excited to see #4 in New York. The only bad thing about the trade is if Favre is traded to the Vikings from the Jets, the Jets will have to give up like 3 first round draft picks, that would have been funny to see the Jets trade him to the Vikings to spite the Packers. Well, I am already excited about a new Falcons season, and a great college and NFL season, and this trade makes it even better, so lets play some ball.

Wait, you are blaming THE PACKERS for how they treated FAVRE?!?! That's an...interesting...take on things.

yes, the Packers didn't want a three time MVP who was within a pass of leading them to the Super Bowl last year, back on their team. The face of the franchise wants back you say, hello Mr. Favre what do you need, would you like a better office, etc., and you tell Aaron that is dumbass has to wait a few more years. Favre has earned the right to do whatever he wants with the Packers... they were a joke prior to him being there, and now they are a joke again. So if Chipper Jones retired after this year and then said that he wanted to come back prior the spring training, I guarantee you that the Braves would not say you have to fight for your starting spot, you have to be a backup, you really put us in a bad spot, no they would say come back and you can have a bigger suite at Turner Field....

OK, you're the first person I've heard besides Green Bay Favre-lovers say that this is the Packers fault, so maybe I can give you a different way to look at it.

Favre, after being more wishy-washy on retirement than Michael Jordan, tearfully announces his retirement in a MARCH press conference.

Green Bay, having groomed Aaron Rodgers (who I can't believe you would criticize - what has he done wrong?!?!) to replace the aging Favre, decides to move on. What else would you expect? They need a QB, their QB just retired.

Rumors start to circulate that Favre is (big surprise) not sure about his decision. So the bosses go down to meet him at his home and talk to him. He ASSURES them that his decision is final.

Training camp approaches, and more doubts about his status come to light. Favre dismisses comeback tales as "mere rumors," which is a lie.

The Packers are supposed to bow down to Favre and put him back on the team when he finally gets around to being honest with them? I don't want to hear about loyalty...where is FAVRE's loyalty to the Packers? They payed him a lot of money and made him the face of their franchise, and he pays them back by jerking them around for 6 months and then publicly criticizing them at every turn because they don't bow down to him?

Read this article, it says it better than you or I ever could, but I don't think there's much doubt that this situation is of Favre's making. He knew he wasn't done with football, and he still chose this path, and more power to Green Bay for deciding to move on and not letting the team be a sideshow to a very selfish aging QB.

Like you I am entitled to my opinion, and I don't need to look somewhere else for my opinion. I watched what happened, and let me throw this at you, maybe after the season the Packers did not seem interested in having Favre come back, because Aaron Rodgers had one good game against the Cowboys. Favre saved the franchise, if someone saved me I would forever be in their debt, and no waivering or jerking me around would stand in the way. I would give into their every need, and I would be happy doing it. I am neutral, I love Matt Ryan, I just think that their is more to the first retirement than is being reported, I especially think that Favre was forced to make a decision way too early after the season, and I have a feeling that the Packers were more ready for a decision than Brett Favre....

Well you're entitled to feelings and intuition, as well as opinions, but that's hardly information. I don't think you run a franchise by cowtowing to any one player, especially after the way Favre has acted, I don't care who he is. There's no dispute once he retired, they went down to see him to make sure he was retired. He assured them he was. They gave him a lot of deference, and he has acted like a big baby. He is starting to look like the entitled pampered athlete in the vain of T.O. He is killing his legacy with this BS.

Just read the article. I read your blog even though I too don't need to do so to form an opinion, but since you are commenting back it's clear you like the exchange of ideas, and that's all that article is....it's hard to argue with its conclusions.

Noba, you asked the question where is Favre's loyalty to the Packers.....He has been loyal to the packers for the 17 seasons he played for them. Thats why he became the face of the franchise. After all the wishy washy acts that have transpired on Favre's part and the Packers part, the bottom line is that the man still wants to play, and he is well capable of playing. No matter what people say about his age!! Me personally, I hope this decision comes back to bite the packers...because I don't believe you can do something like this to someone who has been loyal to you for 17 years.

I read the article, It sounded like someone who loves Aaron Rodgers, and wanted to have a different opinion than most....I actually read the article when it came out on August 5th, didn't do much for me then, and not now....

Favre was well-compensated and made extremely famous by playing for the Packers. It was a pretty symbiotic relationship, dude.

But the Packers have never gone to the media and criticized Favre even though they have every right to...

Favre on the other hand wants to whine and complain and talk about getting traded to a division rival so he can have the chance to beat his old teammates 2x a year? That goes way beyond just having private beef with the front office. He is exposing himself as another entitled me-me-me-me athlete.

Favre is out of his prime, the Jets won't go anywhere with him, and the Pack will be just fine.

Thibodaux said...

If I'm not mistaken, Favre brought the packers back from the crap hole they were in. He made the packers, not the other way around. He brought fans back to green bay!!! Having been an athlete all my life and having the drive to always want to play. If I were in his position, I would have said the same stuff to try and get that team to trade me so I could play.... not only that, who wants to play for a franchise that just stabbed you in that back. Hell, I would want to play them 4 times a year, so I could beat the crap out of them. Not only that, he has done "whats best for the organization" for the past 17 years and now he is wrong for worrying about himself!!! Thats obsurd!

Noba said...

Was he doing what was "best for the organization" when he threw a hissy fit because the GM didn't hire his choice for head coach, his buddy Steve Mariucci? Was it what was "best for the organization" when he told them he was retiring...SEVERAL times...then changed his mind? Was he doing what was "best for the organization" when he ignored Aaron Rodgers and played no part in his development?

It's obvious we have some player-centric fans on this blog, but I thought football was the ultimate team sport? Favre was given a chance to come back, engage in a sham competition for his starting job, which he would have gotten back, and HE f*cked it up. HE did. It's nobody's fault but his own.

Brett Favre is 3-7 in his last 10 playoff games. (19 INTs in those games)

He has thrown 100 interceptions over the last 5 regular seasons.

He has won as many super bowls in his career as Eli Manning and Trent Dilfer have.

Sports is business, no matter how much fans don't want it to be. Favre, last year's run non-withstanding, hasn't had the Packers among the league's consistently elite in over a decade. Between that and the flip-flopping over retirement, it was time to cut the cord.

The Packers could and should have handled it better, but they made a decision to improve their franchise. Getting a first round pick for Favre at this stage in his career is EXCELLENT value, and as a Jets fan, I can say that while I am excited to see what Favre can do, I don't think the Packers made a bad decision. Both parties had clearly hit the point of no return.

OK, obviously we feel different about this situation!! But just for the record, I am actually not a fan of Brett. I actually have never been a fan of Favre. From all the articles I have read and sportscenter I have watched, this was my thoughts of the situation. The things you listed in your last post, are things which have happened over the last 5 or 6 years. So, what about the other 10 or 11 years he was there. What does that account for? Now, for the development of Rogers, I think he is def. wrong in that. You should always want to help a fellow athlete get better, even if he is competing against you.
