Let Him Play!!!

So Michael Vick is back, or is he??? Roger Goodell has conditionally re-instated the former All-Pro QB. They man just served 20+ months at the so-called "hardest" prison in the U.S., and now he probably won't be active to play until mid to late October of this year, week 6 to be exact. What a joke! I heard a good comment on 790 the Zone yesterday morning. Goodell doesn't want Vick to be the headline in week 1 of his 2009 NFL season. Re-instate him towards the middle of the year, when Tom Brady has 5 or 6 healthy games under his belt, the Steelers are 5-0 on the way to their 2nd straight NFL championship and Matt Ryan has eliminated the possibility of a "Sophomore Slump". At this point in the NFL season, he believes there will be bigger stories to worry about than the return of Michael Vick. In actuality, whether Vick is fully re-instated today or 3 years from now, the headline will be Michael Vick is back! I also heard some crap about Goodell being concerned about where and what he spends his money on. Michael Vick should be allowed to legally spend his money on whatever he chooses. He earns it, and it should be no concern of Goodell's. I honestly hope Vick returns to the NFL as the same player he always was. To this day he is, and probably always will be the most entertaining player to ever suit up and put on the shoulder pads. He has more than paid his dues for his crime. Let the man earn a living. I'm not even going to bring up the Donte' Stallworth situation.

Ok, in the midst of the Braves playing their best baseball of the year, they call up Kelly Johnson. First of all, wtf, second, wtf, third, wtf, and finally wtf. Let me make it simple for you, Kelly Johnson goes on DL the Braves start winning, he comes off the DL and the Braves lose. It is the most obvious thing in sports Kelly Johnson is the worst baseball player in the major leagues. The Braves started winning when Kelly Johnson's call up Brooks Conrad hit a 3-run homer against Washington. Brooks Conrad is 8 times the player Kelly Johnson is and he is a switch hitter. Frank Wren is a terrible GM and Kelly Johnson is an even worse second baseman. I am marking this date down on my calendar as the day the Braves went from contender to the Nationals. Whatever the circumstances there was no reason to bring up Kelly Johnson, this hurts the chemistry of the team as well as makes the team worse. If it is not broken don't fix it....WTF

Second, shut you f' ing mouth, we didn't want you, you are an old injured washed up pitcher. Ask other teams who are talking smack about the Braves releasing you, oh they can talk a big game on how we screwed you, but would their team want you, the answer is no. You are done, you came here to Atlanta and pulled a Mike Hampton, leave and don't come back, if I see you as a pitching coach in an capacity for the Braves or in the Atlanta area I will be royally pissed off. I admit I was guilty of predicting with my heart and not my head for games 1 and 2 of the Hawks / Cavs series. I actually thought the Hawks had a chance to win at least 1 of these games.

So far the Hawks have shown just how over matched they are on the floor, on the bench and at the helm. The Hawks have played 2 games now without the slightest sign of an adjustment. This is why Mike Brown was the coach of the year, and why Mike Woodson is on the chopping block year after year. I usually think coaching is overrated, but when you sit back and let the same thing happen in 2 straight games without making an adjustment, I start to feel like its time for a change.

Big props to Lebron James and company. This is how a championship team plays. When the best player in the league can get his teammates involved the way Lebron does, the formula is bound to result in a ring. And this guy is only 24 years old!

Hawks it was a good run this season, but like Jon Barry said the other day... "Get your 4 games and get ready for the summer".

Before the interview I was just going to say all positive things about the Braves first month, just to see how Bobby would react. I came to the conclusion that he thinks the Braves are off to a good start and are in first place in the east....as the interview concludes he gets a little mad at me, read and see if you can tell what pisses him off the most....

The Joe : Hello Bobby, nice to see you again, been a great start to the season.

Cox: Yeah, Yeah it has, you know when you throw strikes and hit .330 as a team like we are, the season will always be a successful one.

The Joe: Well, I see that left field has been a strong part of our lineup over the past few years, how happy are you with the left field situation?

Cox: Couldn't be happier, Diaz has played great this year, not only is he a great stick (.220), he is also great in the field, I mean the jumps he gets on balls, I would have to say he is one of the best in the game. Now Garrett Anderson is a little banged up but when he comes back I will start the platoon process again, and we will be off and running. Garrett Anderson is a professional hitter, and he really loves being in Atlanta, great defense as well.

The Joe: Ok, Jeff Francoeur is off to a hot start, what can you contribute that to?

Cox: Well, 3 words: Terry Pendelton....

The Joe: Really, TP has been working hard with all the hitters, let's get back to that....

It seems we are getting good innings from the top 3 guys in our pitching rotation, is this what you wanted when you sign Lowe and Vazquez?

Cox: Our starters have done exactly what we want them to do, they are all having good seasons and maybe with a break here and there they would be leading the league in wins....

The Joe: Ok well that was a vague answer, finally we come to the infield and I will start with Kelly Johnson, how has he done so far this year?

Cox: Kelly has done everything we have asked of him, we don't expect him to hit .200 or have many homeruns, or even be able to field the ball, like all other 2 baggers, we just like his swing, and he is a great person and we think he makes our lineup intimidating. I mean come on his on base is like .250, he can take a pitch with the best of them....

The Joe: Bobby, come on, really, come on, Kelly Johnson is the worst 2nd basemen in the big leagues.

Cox: I don't like your tone, this.....

The Joe: 2nd our pitching outside of Jurrgens is suspect and you expect Tom Glavine to save us, well I got news for you he is 100 yrs old and can't throw 30 feet....

The Joe: Jordan Shafer has a hole in his bat, Matt Diaz is awful, Garrett Anderson is like using a used bandaid, and you, TP, and McDowell have leadership of kindergarten teachers, I have to say you have past your prime, and don't get me started on Casey Kotchman....

Cox: Security!! Oh wait no you didn't, did you just talk bad about Kotchy, oh man, if I wasn't 10,000 yrs old I would beat you sonny, Kotchman is great, he can field and he can hit, what more do you want from a 1st baseman....

The Joe: (as security is taking me out) : maybe a first baseman who has power and can hit above .250 is that too much to ask, every team except the Braves has a decent 1st baseman with power, I mean seriously is that too much to ask, please just get me a good 1- bagger....

Cox: You shut your mouth, I platoon my best two players Infante and Prado, because they are too good to start everyday....

The Joe: what? I was talking about Kotchman, not the fact that you leave two of our best players on the bench so we can suck....

Texas Braves

Well, all year I have been watching the Texas Braves and thinking about what might have been. I have said this for a few years now, we gave away too much to get Mark Teixeira. They got 5 of our best prospects and we got Casey Kotchman, wow what a deal. When I think about how the Texas Braves have all that promise, all that promise is because of all the Atlanta Braves. Matt Harrison would be our #4, a good one at that, Elvis Andrus would be our starting SS, while Escobar would be at 2nd or we would have Jake Peavy. Salty would be playing 1st, anything is better than Kotchman. Beau Jones has not made a big splash but he could have been used as better trade bait, and Feliz would be a good bullpen guy, but nooooooo we had to get Sexy Texy, how is that working out for you Bobby, how awesome is your boy Kotchman. I wish Kotchman and Kelly Johnson would go find a volcano to jump in.....

PS Matt is right, Terry Pendelton needs to go, so does Bobby, the course has been run, if you don't think that you have blinders over your eyes, they are no longer helping the Braves, they are hurting them....

I will tell you right now if the Hawks get past the Heat which is still a tall order without Horford, they will beat the Cavs....They have played the Cavs well all year, and they will have nothing to lose. The series against the Heat, they have a lot of pressure on them but against the Cavs they will have none and I feel they will beat Cleveland. Hey by the way the Braves did not lose tonight.

Again, the Braves will not win another division unless they release Kelly Johnson, Matt Diaz, and Casey Kotchman. Blaine Boyer would have been on this list, but he is finally gone.

The Falcons drafted enough secondary people, I would love to get Anquan Boldin....

Last night, the Miami Heat showed once again that they are Dwyane Wade and the high school travel team. Games 2 and 3 were merely a fluke. The Hawks have 6 or 7 players that can put up double figures night in and night out.

I look for the Hawks, with or without Horford and his sprained ankle, with or without the soft Marvin Williams and his sore wrist, to wrap this series up Friday night in Miami, 92 to 80.

Braves suck....

The Atlanta Braves are terrible, they are incredibly soft, they are like robots that were programmed to suck. The team could care less if they win or lose, they make me sick. Chipper Jones is the main culprit, he could care less about the Atlanta Braves as a team, just about how Chipper feels and how Chipper hits. There is no reason the Kelly Johnson should ever start over Prado or Infante. There is no way that Diaz should be playing in the major leagues. Casey Kotchman is and has always been the most overrated player in the MLB, but we continue to play him. Yunel Escobar is a zoo on the bases, and Jordan Shafer has a hole in his bat. This is the most frustrating Braves team ever, and it doesn't look like it will improve because Bobby has too much pride and will not admit when he is wrong about his players....Grow the f up Bobby and bring in some talent....

The Falcons went defense heavy as everyone knew they would. Overall I give Dimitrov a B+ for 2009. I break down my grade by pick below.

Round 1 - Peria Jerry DT - A
Strong and quick. Fills a hole left by Grady Jackson immediately.

Round 2 - William Moore SS - A
I like him "Moore" than most. Hard hitter with 4.5 speed. Should start.
Round 3 - Christopher Owens CB - B-
A bit of a reach in the 3rd but could start in a few years. Good in coverage.

Round 4 - Lawrence Sidbury DE - B+
I'm hoping he pushes Jamaal Anderson to the bench. Great pass rusher.

Round 5 - William Middleton CB - C
Not more than a sub at this point. Athletic and might play in dime packages.

Round 5 - Garrett Reynolds OT - B+
Quality, quality 5th round pick. I expect to see him on the field at some point in 2009.

Round 6 - Spencer Adkins LB - C+
Somewhat of a raw talent at inside or outside LB. Backup at best.

Round 7 - Vance Walker DT - B-
Lucky to get this type of player in the 7th. Could add depth at DT if he makes the team. Good run stopper.

Lassiter Trojans

I blogged a few months back about the Lassiter Trojans turning the corner in football, well that corner has been turned. The Trojans roll into the playoffs for the first time in 8 years, 4th time in history with an 8-2 record after posting a 3-7 record the previous year. I said that the facility improvements would help, the "if you build it they will come" mentality, but if you bring in a new coach with a winning attitude it will help speed up the process. It will be a tough task this week against Etowah, but the Trojans are on the right track.

Obama has brainwashed the majority of his supporters and has turned the election into a white / black competition. It's sad to see so many voters with no idea what either candidate stands for to choose a candidate based on simply their race. I can't tell you how many radio stations I have listened to over the past 6 months where ignorant people who probably can't read a book call in and chant Obama, Obama simply because he is 50% African American. It is what it is. This is why we vote!

I have been a supporter of Obama for 4 years now, and I am excited about his chances tonight. I think he is a man of integrity, he is a man of the people, and he is passionate about our country, and all its people. I really believe in what he says, and I believe he will change a person, change a town, change a city, change a state, change a country, and change the world. Every great leader is a great speaker and Obama is an incredible speaker. It takes a lot for me to listen to a speech, and every time I hear Obama speak and hear his words I stop and listen, like John F. Kennedy, like Franklin Roosevelt, and like Martin Luther King. McCain is a war hero, loves our country, and is a great person, but he is not the change we need. I have been a Republican my whole life, but when a person like Obama comes along who is a once in a lifetime kind of person, I had to recognize.

The Atlanta Hawks opened their season in Orlando in good style. The Hawks jumped out to a 31-13 lead and never looked back. The bench has some new names, but may be the strength of the Hawks, despite what the experts say. Flip Murray and Maurice Evans are two high energy scorers that come off the bench to help spell the starters. Flip Murray was great off the bench last night, and helped the Hawks open their big lead, while Josh Smith played patient which is a great sign. Next, the Hawks play Philadelphia on Friday at Philips.

I have a story for the people defending Philadelphia fans. A little Tampa Bay fan of 6 was in Philadelphia to watch the Tampa Bay Rays, well when Philly fans saw this little boy walking to his seat they stop and poured a beer on his head, wet and embarrassed the kid walked back to his seat while Philly fans pounded him with food. A high up Tampa Bay Rays wife was being harassed so much she locked herself in a stall and the Philly fans beat on the door until they got tired of harassing her and left. I heard these from a talk radio show host, so I am not making them up. These stories are more prevalent in Philadelphia where the people are miserable because they live in a terrible city, and have miserable lives. I would have to vote them the worst fans in America. Again, go f yourself Philadelphia....

Atlanta Falcons

It has been two days and I am still not over the ignorance of the officials during the Atlanta Falcons game. Clearly Jennings did not touch the ball, and the Falcons were cheated out of a chance to win the game. The ref should have known that it was impossible for the Falcons to challenge the ruling on the field and called it the other way, so if he did touch it the Eagles could have challenged, sometimes you need to do what is best and use your brain, he did not. There definitely needs to be a rule change about using the challenges, that is why they are there, to get the call right, and this call was wrong and not corrected. This could be the end to a promising but surprising season for the Atlanta Falcons. The ref took away a playoff chance for the Falcons, and I am furious. Now I know how the San Diego Chargers feel because they have been cheated out of at least one win this year, and that one win could keep them out of the playoffs, and could cost Norv Turner his job. All this because an ignorant ref could not get a call right, or he blew his whistle when he clearly shouldn't have. I am sick on the NFL right now, and stop being f'ing ignorant and make sure you get the calls right. Every play should be reviewed just like in college. Go F yourself Philadelphia.....

First off, I am not a Clemson fan, I have friends that are, and I will root for them in most games, especially last night against Wake Forest. Wow!! You have got to be kidding me, this team has fallen off a cliff. Harper went from a first round pick to maybe sitting the bench, Spiller was hurt last night, and there has been clear skies for the whole season, no thunder and lightning. I am amazed at how bad this team is, and I am not going to blame the players at all, except the receivers who can't catch. It squarely rest on the coaches, especially Tommy Bowden. If you have all these running backs and a quarterback, don't you think a few years ago you would have started putting a line together to protect them, shame on you Tommy. Don't you think with a great quarterback you would recruit receivers that could catch a cold, again shame on you Tommy. Finally, I just think the play calling is terrible, and the head coach is a wreck, time to go Tommy, you have underachieved for too long, time to get a new face at Clemson. I know I have friends that want Muschamp, I think Jim Mora, Jr, Lane Kiffin, or Jim Harbaugh would also be good fits. Good Luck to the Clemson fan.....

Atlanta Thrashers

Being a huge hockey fan and Atlanta Thrashers fan, I am excited about opening night at Philips tonight against the Capitals. The Thrashers had a horrible off season especially with ticket sales, the season ticket renewal rate was only 40%, the rest of the league is laughing at Atlanta. Fans are not happy, including me, with the direction of the organization, especially the ownership and GM. The Atlanta Spirit would be better suited to own a carnival than two major sports teams. With all that said I am optimistic that we can make a run at the playoffs if our young talent can gel together. The team has made some moves in the off season to add depth, but no real scorers or exciting players, which we desperately needed to help Kovalchuk. The Thrashers have also added a minor league coach who has won championships, our minor league team, so maybe he can get our young players that he has coached before to win. The fact of the matter is if Don Waddell GM does not win this year I want his head, and hopefully we can turn it around before the Thrashers become the Manitoba Muscle.....

Oh yeah, those red jerseys are the new third jersey, blah blah.....hey instead of getting new jerseys ever year why not put a competitive team out on the ice.....

College Coaches

Since Jim Mora, Jr was fired from the Atlanta Falcons, I have wondered why he hasn't taken a college job. Now that Lane Kiffin is available it is just reminds me that Jim Mora, Jr. is wasting his time in Seattle and not getting a college job. I would understand if he was waiting for the Washington job, but seriously that is a huge rebuilding project and will they ever fire the worst college coach ever in Ty Willingham. For example the Tennessee job will be open after Georgia spanks them in Athens, and I think that there are four guys that I would go after if I were Tennessee, and that list is very short, Jon Gruden, Lane Kiffin, Jim Mora, Jr, or Jim Harbaugh (already a college coach, but really) and I would not take no for an answer. Those four guys would be unbelievable recruiters and coaches in college. For too long I have wanted Jim Mora, Jr. to take a college job, but now with Lane Kiffin available it is driving me crazy and until one of them hit that recruiting trail I am going to whine like a little baby. Tennessee, Auburn, Washington, Washington State, Florida State, Clemson, oh my gosh if Jim Mora, Jr went to Clemson I would buy season tickets, all these schools need new coaches, and I wish they would fill them with these guys. Can you imagine if Lane Kiffin and Jon Gruden took the Auburn and Tennessee jobs, the SEC would be unstoppable. I am not going to stop til it happens.....

It pains me to see teams like the Angels and the Cubs,who led their respective leagues in wins, completely tank in the playoffs. The other night the Chicago Cubs couldn't have beaten Illinois of Chicago, they were so nervous and tight. The Angels got a few hits with runners in scoring position last night, but when they needed that second hit, it never happened. I have one solution for what I call the AngelBraves syndrome, because of course in this early century we were the best at it, and funny that some of the times the Cubs were the beneficiary. Oh no, maybe we passed the disease on and maybe Teixiera took it with him to Los Angeles. No, he didn't because they are the kings of the LDS syndrome. My solution is as follows, get rid of the 5 game series and go to 7, I have said this for years, if they Cubs or Angels were down in a 7 game series 2-0, they could still come back, in a 5 game series the tension gets even worse and it is nearly impossible to come back from 2-0 in a 5 game series. A 5 game series lets hot teams like the Rockies, Marlins, and others advance farther than really should be the case. You say "Joe, just win the games and shut up", well when you have the whole Cubs nation on your back it is not as easy as it looks. I just think a 7 game series has a better shot of showing who the better team is than a 5. We are going to be robbed of the best team all year in the National League in the first round of the playoffs, and that sucks. The point of my story is to spearhead a campaign to get rid of the 5 game series, and go to 7 in the LDS. Also, don't be an smartass and say "well why don't you just make it 9, 11, 13.", to you I say shut up and goodbye.....

I will tell you this, Furcal makes that lineup a lot more scary, and with Kent out it makes it very young and potent, and they will be in the race for years to come.....

Kelly Johnson

Kelly Johnson has a 21 game hitting streak, great, except that in the past 21 games the Braves have had no pressure on them to win. I think Kelly can be a good player but he needs to do more when the Braves are still in the hunt. Kelly has been a hitter that goes in terrible slumps and then times where he can't buy an out. I just hope that he can continue this hitting into the offseason and start next year like he is ending this year. Good 2B are hard to find in the majors, and if Kelly Johnson puts up a consistent .286 12hr 68rbi year next year it will be a good year. Please avoid those horrible slumps is what I am trying to say to you Kelly Johnson. Also, to add to this point, Martin Prado and Omar Infante can be starters in this league on other teams, the only problem is it is hard for them to start on the same team because the lack of power. We have a logjam of utility players, and I am interested to see what happens, I like them all but a Kelly Johnson, Martin Prado, Omar Infante infield is not possible, unless we turn into the small ball Twins.

My prediction of what the Braves will look like in the field next year, our problem will be the pitching staff, we will probably go after Burnett.....

Lane Kiffin is not stupid, Al Davis is a moron, and the Raiders are a mess, but not playing to bad. First of all Kiffin is not going to quit, really quit and leave all that money on the table, he is not stupid. We all know that he does not want to be there, and we know the Raiders don't want him there, well maybe you shouldn't have given all that money to a young smartass. I love this guy, he pokes fun at Al Davis all the time with his sarcastic comments. This story is getting better and better as it goes on, can't wait til the plot twist at the end of the movie.

Weekend Wrap-Up

I never took my eye of the coverage of the Ryder Cup, Florida/Tennessee nah, North Carolina/VT nope, Falcons/Chiefs LOL, I sat and watched golf all weekend. I was amazed at the ability of these players to sink long putts in clutch situations with the pressure of the whole country on their shoulders. I was also amazed at the sportsmanship of the Europeans (minus Westwood), how they kept their cool with thousands of Americans screaming at them, and cheering all their bad, it was remarkable. I have always liked Sergio Garcia, he has been given a bad rap over here, but he is a great player and he is a great person. He was the first to congratulate the Americans on their first win since 1999. I was very impressed with Sergio.....

In other sports, Georgia rolled, Florida rocks, LSU is better than we thought, the Braves are good at being a spoiler, and the Yellow Jackets are well coached. Derek Jeter sent Yankee Stadium off with a good speech, and the Yankees showed why they are a class organization. The Rays are in the playoffs for the first time, and the Mets have the worst bullpen known to man. The Patriots are human, and Ronnie Brown wasted a lot of points by sitting on most fantasy player's bench. The Falcons won a laugher and the Chiefs, Rams, and Browns are a laughing stock. Florida State needs to find a new offense, and fall weather is awesome. Hope y'all had a great weekend, and I think I am going to ride my club down the first fairway like our countryman Boo Weekley, "that dog will hunt."

Yeah, Ned Yost deserved to be fired if fired means hired and given an extension. What a f****** joke to fire a man that led his team to a 20-7 record in August. All the sudden because his team is slumping, and his players are as soft as Prince Fielder's tummy, he is not a good manager. Really, well two weeks ago he was, shut the f*** up Mr. Brewers owner you are a tool and you panicked because you mortgaged the future to get CC. Well, first of all you were not going to beat the Cubs and get to a world series so that was a bad move, second you aren't going to sign CC for 25 million because he is going to the Yankees, and finally your team is soft, oh I am sorry did I hurt your feelings, stop crying, oh it is ok, I am sorry I take it back, you are not a tool. No, you know what, you are a tool. Have fun in the offseason without 4 of your best prospects, if this looks familiar it is because this is the same thing that happened to the Braves, and look how well they are doing without those 5 stud prospects. Watched most of the game on yahoo sports where the yellow men make the bases, and only twice, a walk and hbp, did Houston get a yellow baserunner. It was a very exciting 9th inning for the Cubs/Astros game played in Milwaukee. In what was supposed to be a home game for the Astros, Carlos Zambrano threw a no-hitter in front of 23,000 screaming Cub's fans. I am glad ESPN was able to pick up the 9th inning, where I watched with anxiousness as Erstad struck out for the last out. Nice to see a good guy get rewarded.....

Ronnie Robinson out for 3 months with torn labrum in shoulder.....

The MRI results came back and the news was what everyone thought, torn labrum in Ronnie's left shoulder. He had been playing through the pain, but the first playoff win was too much as his shoulder gave out during an at-bat, he continued to play but was in obvious pain. He was already playing with a bum right side, and now the left. The best thing is that he will get it taken care of and go through rehab and he will be back good as new for the Atlanta Diamondbacks season opener in late March. In other news D. Hall is a tool.....

I hate for anyone to get injured, especially the MVP, but Belichick has made a mockery of the injury report for a few years now, putting Brady as questionable every game, and now he will have to do it for real. It is what it is, and here is a list of QB's that may replace Brady besides Matt Cassel who has not started a game since high school.

Lassiter High School in Marietta, Ga has long been know for its dominating baseball teams, but now football might be taking the next step. After spending money on field turf and stadium renovations and additions they are reaping the rewards. Lassiter is now 2-0 on the young season and are still not a powerhouse, but I have always said that if you spend the money on facilities, the players will come, and it looks like Lassiter has taken that approach. Lassiter baseball has the best baseball field by far in the state of Georgia and it is no coincidence that they have a National Championship with two state championships as well as 5 state runner ups. I know it is my school, but I am excited about the commitment they have made to football and facilities.

Two nights ago I watched an amazing match between these two sisters. It seems everytime they play now it is an epic match. As they have grown up and I have seen more and more of them I have started to dislike everything about Serena. I feel that Venus in victory or defeat is far more gracious and Serena is a crazy lady in victory and a cry baby in defeat. Venus will never show up Serena or make her feel worse while she is down, while I feel that Serena could care less about what Venus is feeling. I have watched them a ton and it is really starting to bother me the immaturity of Serena. Go Federer!!

After a great match against Andy Roddick, Djokovic in an on court interview told the New York crowd that Andy Roddick needs to shut his mouth and not poke at other players prior to their match. The crowd hated it and booed him the rest of the interview. It was a bad way to end the night after he played such a great match. So all I have to say is shut your mouth, yes we know that Roddick needs to shut his mouth and not give you bulletin-board material but still the last thing you need is the crowd in New York against you playing Roger Federer. A New York crowd will yell in the middle of your service toss, they will cheer when you double fault and since you are a mental midget to begin with, it is going to get to you and wear you down against Federer. Hey, I am rooting for Federer so maybe you should keep your mouth running.
